Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai (Thai:  เชียงใหม่)  sometimes written as "Chiengmai" or "Chiangmai",
is the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand, and is the
capital of Chiang Mai Province. It is located 700 km (435 mi) north of Bangkok,
among the highest mountains in the country. The city is on the Ping river, a
major tributary of the Chao Phraya river.

Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai  is the northernmost province (changwat) of Thailand. Neighbouring provinces are (from east clockwise) Phayao, Lampang and Chiang Mai. In the north it borders Shan State of Myanmar and Bokeo of Laos.

     The majority of the population are generally ethnic Thai, but 12.5% of the population belong to the hill tribes, a minority in the North of Thailand. A minority are of Chinese descent, mainly descendants of the Kuomintang soldiers who settled in the region, notably Santikhiri.

Bung Kan

Bung Kan is carved out of Nong Khai province along the Mekong River in the northeast region known as Isan.  It shares the border with Laos in the north east across the Mekong River. Its south and west borders are four Thai provinces: Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Udon Thani and Nong Khai.
The Cabinet Tuesday approved the plan to establish Thailand's 77th province, which will be called Bueng Karn.
The new province will be separated from Nong Khai.
The new province will be comprised of eight districts and will have 399,233 populations.
